BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – As part of a series of diplomatic engagements, the broader context of regional stability and international cooperation took center stage during recent talks in Berlin. The discussions between key government officials emphasized the importance of bolstering partnerships, particularly in economic development and regional security. The focus then shifted to a high-level meeting involving UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul held on Thursday in Berlin. The gathering concentrated on deepening UAE-Germany cooperation across various sectors, while also addressing broader regional and international issues, diplomacy, peace efforts, and security concerns. This meeting coincided with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE and Germany widen strategic partnership in Berlin
UAE-Germany talks in Berlin highlight expanding strategic and economic cooperation.

During their discussions, both officials explored opportunities to expand the strategic partnership and foster collaboration in multiple fields. Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the robustness and resilience of UAE-Germany relations, emphasizing ongoing developments in cooperation. He also underscored their shared dedication to building on previous successes and supporting sustainable economic growth. Wadephul and Sheikh Abdullah exchanged perspectives on common interests and diplomatic approaches to crisis resolution.

The state visit provided a framework to enhance bilateral ties further. Germany’s Federal Government regarded it as the first state visit to Germany by a UAE president. During the visit, Sheikh Mohamed met Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and together they announced a new Strategic Dialogue. This format encompasses areas such as security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, technology, digitalization, transport, environment, culture, and education.

    Expanding Cooperation through Strategic Dialogue

The governments also supported initiatives like the German-UAE Investment Council to enhance engagement between public and private sectors. They welcomed the revival of the Joint Economic Committee and the outcomes of a bilateral business forum. According to the joint declaration, the visit resulted in 29 business agreements and memoranda valued at over 9.356 billion euros. Additionally, an investment package from the UAE totaling 40 billion euros into Germany was announced.

Economic collaboration now extends into energy, cutting-edge technology, and digital infrastructure. The declaration outlined ongoing and planned projects involving LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency. It also referenced plans for developing advanced data centers with approximately one gigawatt of capacity. Artificial intelligence and emerging technological fields are also among the areas identified for expanded cooperation.

Diplomacy and Regional Stability Highlighted in Berlin Talks

In addition to economic issues, the foreign ministers addressed regional and international developments, emphasizing the need for stronger global efforts to sustain peace and stability, as well as to uphold international security. Their discussions underscored the role of diplomacy in resolving crises, aligning with themes from President Sheikh Mohamed’s state visit. The German government had also prioritized Middle East peace and stability as key subjects for the leaders’ meetings.

Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, UAE Minister of State, participated in the meeting between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul. The conversations integrated foreign policy, economic cooperation, and development into the broader framework of bilateral relations. The state visit reinforced this connection through formal mechanisms for investment, strategic dialogue, and sector-specific collaboration. These Berlin engagements represent the latest chapter in the long-standing UAE-Germany Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that has been active since 2004.
