Rankwire: 02 October 2026; Colombo – As part of its ongoing efforts to bolster aviation training standards in the region, SriLankan Airlines has successfully delivered a specialized Airbus A330 Line Flying Under Supervision (LFUS) course for six senior pilots from Etihad Airways, including training and examination personnel. This achievement highlights Etihad Airways’ trust in SriLankan Airlines’ training facilities and operational expertise, further cementing the partnership between the two national carriers.

The programme saw participation from five Type Rating Examiners (TREs) and one Senior Type Rating Examiner (STRE) from Etihad Airways. It was executed with guidance from SriLankan Airlines’ experienced flight instructors, flight crews, and operational support teams, ensuring a safe, effective, and professionally enriching training environment for the visiting pilots.

Commenting on the initiative, Captain Chaminda De Zoysa, Head of Flight Operations at SriLankan Airlines, stated, “For SriLankan Airlines, this opportunity represented more than a single training assignment. It demonstrates the airline’s ability to leverage its Airbus A330 fleet, experienced instructors, operational expertise and established training infrastructure to support the training and development of aviation professionals from other major global carriers. The initiative also highlights the potential of SriLankan Airlines Flight Training to serve as a regional aviation training partner, offering specialised and high-quality training solutions to international operators.”

The success of this programme was made possible through meticulous planning and coordination involving SriLankan Airlines. Support came from the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL), the Ministry of Defence, and other key stakeholders, who worked together to establish the necessary framework and obtain all required clearances, ensuring smooth execution of the training.

Through initiatives like this, SriLankan Airlines continues to prove that its expertise extends beyond flight operations, actively contributing to the global development of aviation professionals and positioning Sri Lanka as a regional hub for advanced aviation training.
